Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has revoked traditional titles held by several prominent individuals, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who lost his esteemed position as Waziri Adamawa.ยน
The decision was announced during the coronation of the newly installed Chief of Madagali, as part of the state’s restructuring of emirates and chiefdoms. Fintiri explained that all District Heads must now align with the boundaries of the newly created emirates and chiefdoms, rendering traditional titles conferred under the old jurisdictions invalid.
As a result, Fintiri himself relinquished his title of Sarki Yaki Mubi, while Atiku Abubakar lost his position as Waziri Adamawa, and former Governor Boni Haruna forfeited his title of Makama Mubi.
To facilitate a smooth transition, the governor instructed traditional councils in the newly formed emirates to propose new titles for approval in line with customary laws. Notably, the Lamido of Adamawa can submit names, including Atiku’s, for reconsideration, subject to Fintiri’s final approval.
