Democracy Day: Ododo Commends Nigerians for Their Commitment to Inclusive Governance.
Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended Nigerians for their commitment to inclusive governance, urging them to strengthen their patriotism to protect the nation’s democracy as the country commemorates the 2025 Democracy Day.
In his message, Ododo described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s journey toward democratic governance, calling it “a solemn reminder that democracy is not gifted, it’s earned.” He paid tribute to the heroes of the 1993 presidential election and acknowledged the sacrifices of pro-democracy champions, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor reaffirmed Kogi State’s commitment to democratic ideals of inclusion, justice, and accountability, pledging to continue leading a people-centered administration that delivers results in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and security.
Ododo emphasized that democracy thrives when it’s participatory and accountable, calling on citizens, especially the youth, to take an active role in governance. He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society actors, and public servants to lead by example, stating that democracy is best measured by tangible results that improve people’s lives.
The governor also stressed the importance of defending democratic values from threats to national unity and pledged full support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He concluded by pledging to protect the rights and freedoms of Kogi State residents, ensuring they can live and work in safety and dignity.
“Let’s rise together in the spirit of nationhood. Let’s stand together in the pursuit of progress. Let’s walk together on the path of peace, equity, and sustainable development,” Ododo added.
