Rivers State, an oil-rich powerhouse with a voting population of approximately 3,523,990, stands at a critical juncture in its democratic journey.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s only “offense” has been his unwavering commitment to serving the good people of Rivers State and ensuring they receive the true dividends of democracy. However, his tenure has been relentlessly plagued by the tyrannical grip of a power-hungry predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who seeks to maintain absolute control over the state’s governance. Instead of allowing the governor to lead with independence and integrity, Wike has turned day and night into a political battlefield, suffocating democracy and the will of the people.
I salute Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He is my winner. His resilience, courage, and dedication to Rivers State will be remembered by history. On the other hand, the unfortunate Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has not only brought shame to himself but has also orchestrated economic setbacks and disrupted democratic governance in the state. Yet, one thing remains certain—the ultimate power resides with the people of Rivers State. When the next democratic dispensation arrives, they will be ready to exercise their franchise and right the wrongs inflicted upon them.
It is, however, deeply disheartening that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its entire organs have failed Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The party stood by and watched as Wike, a political monster they nurtured for too long, openly oppressed a sitting governor without consequence. Instead of standing firmly with their own, they chose to dine with tyranny. This, indeed, is a tragic day for democracy, and as a PDP member, I find myself struggling with disappointment.
I am not proud!
Yet, despite the setbacks, I remain hopeful. Democracy may be bruised, but it is never broken. The will of the people will always prevail.
God bless Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
God bless Rivers State and its people.
Signed;
*Hon. Olalekan Abdulmojeed Anjolaiya*
