Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail in the sum of N2 million by a Magistrate Court in Ogun State. The court adjourned the case until March 5 for further proceedings.¹
Portable, who was arraigned on five-count charges, including conspiracy, assault, and restriction while armed with cutlasses and firearms, as well as conduct likely to cause harm, pleaded not guilty to all accusations.²
The singer’s counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, requested bail, stating that Portable was remorseful and had learned his lessons. Magistrate O. L. Oke granted the bail, contingent upon the provision of one surety.
Alongside Portable, nine of his aides were also arraigned on similar charges before the magistrate.
The accused individuals, including Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26), were charged with felony, assault, obstruction, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
The Ogun State Government had earlier condemned Portable’s alleged actions, describing him as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.”
Portable’s legal troubles began after he was accused of assaulting government officials. He had earlier been declared wanted by the police and later turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.
